Captain Brent Wooters , Commander

Captain Brent Wooters joined the Civil Air Patrol in December of 2017. He joined the NC-107th, The Randolph Composite Squadron, after his daughter, now 2nd Lt Haleigh Wooters, had been a member for four months as a cadet. He served as the Public Affairs Officer, Safety Officer, Testing Officer, Internet Technology Officer and ended his time with the NC-107th as the Deputy Commander for Seniors.  Captain Wooters has completed Level IV in the Education and Training Program receiving the Garber Award and he currently serves as an Instructor with Volunteer University. In August of 2021 Captain Wooters and his family left the NC-107th to join the NC-307th, Guilford Composite Squadron, where he served as the Deputy Commander over the group meeting in Rockingham County. On February 28, 2022 the Dan River Flight was reactivated and Captain Wooters accepted command of the NC-070. After six months of operating as a flight the Dan River Flight was granted squadron status and Captain Wooters retained command of the Dan RIver Composite Squadron. Captain Wooters works in medical administration and served as a Police Officer for 9 years and worked in EMS for 28 years as an Advanced Emergency Medical Technician.


 

Lt Michael K. Joyce, Advisor to the Commander

2d Lt Kelly Joyce joined the Civil Air Patrol in Oct of 2021. His daughter C/CMSgt Rylee Joyce and son C/2d Lt Reid Joyce joined NC-307 Guilford Composite Squadron in Greensboro and after hearing of the Rockingham County meetings they transferred there.  After seeing the growth of Rockingham County he and his wife SM Dee Joyce decided to join. When the Dan River Flight NC-070 was reactivated in February of 2022, he assumed the role of Advisor to the Commander and Aerospace Education Office. SM Kelly Joyce is a Private Pilot and has worked for a pipeline in Greensboro, NC as an Operations/Maintenance Supervisor. 


Captain Ralph Newcomb, Deputy Commander for Seniors

Captain Ralph Newcomb joined the Civil Air Patrol with Guilford Composite Squadron (NC-307) for the second time in November 2021. He originally was a Pilot (2 Lt) for a Squadron in Beaufort, SC in the late 70's. Today he is the Deputy Commander for Senior Members and an Assistant Communications Officer for the newly re-activated Dan River Composite Squadron (NC-070). He is an FAA-certified private pilot and a sUAS Remote Pilot. Captain Newcomb is a qualified CAP sUAS Technician, Mission Pilot, Instructor, Check Pilot, and Check Pilot Examiner. At the Wing level currently, he holds the positions of Director of Unmanned Operations and ES Training Officer for SUAS. Additionally, Captain Newcomb was a US Navy Corpsman during the Vietnam era and is a retired US Air Force Captain. He has spent his adult life working as a Registered Nurse in mainly Emergency and Critical Care nursing. Prior to becoming a nurse, he was a firefighter and a paramedic. As a nurse, he has held several nursing leadership roles as well as a Flight Nurse for NC Baptist AirCare. Captain Newcomb is retired but stays active with photography, amateur radio, and motorcycle riding hobbies. He is also a member of the Patriot Guard Riders.


1st Lt Haleigh Wooters, Deputy Commander for Cadets

1st Lt Haleigh Wooters is a 22-year-old college senior pursing her Bachelor of Biology with a Biotechnology Emphasis at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. She joined the NC-107th squadron of the Civil Air Patrol as a cadet in August of 2017. She served as a cadet reaching the rank of C/CMSgt as well as serving on the NCWG Cadet Advisory Council for 2 years before transferring over to the senior member program in February 2021. In August of 2021, Lt Haleigh Wooters and her family, Captain Brent Wooters, and 1st Lt Mara Wooters, left the NC-107th to join the NC-307th (Guilford Composite Squadron) and met at the Rockingham County location. On February 28, 2022, the NC-070th was reactivated as the Dan River Flight. Currently, 1st Lt Haleigh Wooters serves as the Deputy Commander for Cadets for the newly reactivated Dan River Flight. 

 

1st Lt Mara Wooters, Deputy Commander for Cadets

1st Lt Mara Wooters joined the Civil Air Patrol in October of 2020 as a member of the Randolph Composite Squadron. She transferred to the Guilford Composite Squadron during the time of the rechartering of the Dan River Composite Squadron. Lt Wooters has served as an Administration Officer, Personnel Officer and she currently still serves as an Education and Training Officer and Volunteer University Instructor. She stepped into the role of Deputy Commander for Cadets in June of 2023 to assist the growing cadet program at the Dan River Composite Squadron. Lt Wooters is Technician Rated in Administration, Personnel, Education & Training and Health Services. She is currently progressing towards her Technician Rating in Cadet Programs and has also completed Advanced Cadet Protection as well as Training Leaders of Cadets. In her professional life Lt Wooters is a CT Technician with Cone Health.
